If your scout is getting hammered, the Hermes II has the speed and protection to go cover them. In a stand-up brawl, it won't lay a knock-out punch but it can work around the flanks and harass as well as anything short of the redoubtable P-Hawk. The 3050 model was not the Hermes' brightest hour. The SLDF had a love of the Hermes, a scouting light Mech named for the 'winged' heat sink array in the feet. Fairly simple in role, the design packed a flamer and a couple of medium lasers, and was excellent at raiding and hit-and-fade attacks thanks to its fleet-footed abilities and reasonable punch (which will be covered in a future article).

The Hermes is fairly typical of Marik 3050 and earlier lights, combining fast ground speed with a scout focused armament. I never liked those little pop guns with their short barrels, like the one in the Hermes or the Wolverine, having the same range as proper sized autocannons in the Shadow Hawk and Rifleman. In the broken remnants of what used to be the Free Worlds League, one of the most commonly found domestic 'Mechs is the Hermes II, Irian's poster child of Battlemech design for centuries. Older versions of the machine survived in large numbers even after the destruction sowed by the Word of Blake, if for no other reason than well-trained recon .On page 106 there is a conversion list you can use to re-create a battle from the book using BattleTech scale. However there are obviously some errors in there. For example a L3 lance should be "all Jump Capable" - but there are Mechs like Cicada, Hermes II and Clint listed.
