But what makes this guy SO special, and SO valuable is that little extra button popping out of the crown - the 4113 is the only split-seconds chronograph to be built by Rolex, ever. On this particular Saturday, relative newcomer to the world of watch auctions, Phillips, managed to set the world record for a Rolex wristwatch at auction when the Antimagnetique Reference 4113.
Rolex Chronograph Ref: 3525 Used ( Very good ) | Year of production 1942 | No original box | No original papersProduced for only about six years from 1939-1945, reference 3525 is the first Rolex chronograph fitted in a water resistant Oyster case and is the model Hans Wilsdorf sent to English officers who were imprisoned during WWII. The model was produced in stainless steel, pink and yellow gold or two toned steel and gold.Recent research reveals and confirms that indeed only twelve examples of this outstanding chronograph were ever made by Rolex. All cased in steel and finished in 1942, they carry individual case numbers ranging from 051313 to 051324. This watch, made in 1942, measures a relatively massive (for the time) 44mm and is powered by a Valjoux 55 VBR movement, as found in several other split-second chronographs, like the Universal A. Cairelli (one of which is at Monaco Legend Group this spring as well).
